Dentures

A precision made removable denture can be used to replace any natural teeth that are lost. Dentures can either be complete/full dentures that replace all your normal teeth, or partial dentures where one or more false teeth are fitted around the remaining natural teeth. They are manufactured in a dental laboratory using either strong acrylic or cobalt chrome, depending on what is most suitable for each individual patient.A precision-made denture can be used to replace any natural teeth that are lost. After an initial assessment of your dentition and discussions regarding your preferences, we can then recommend a course of action for replacing your missing tooth/teeth. It usually takes between 4 and 5 appointments to accurately construct a denture, during which time we will:

  • Assess your natural smile
  • Assess and record how you bite and chew
  • Discuss your specific requirements, including design, shape and colour issues
  • Take accurate impressions for denture construction

Denture aftercare and maintenance is both important and straightforward. You will be advised and shown how to handle and clean your dentures and remaining teeth. New dentures always take time to get used to, and it sometimes may be necessary to return for review appointments for the denture to be adjusted. Normal wear and tear, and age-related changes to the shape of our mouth and teeth means that readjustments and replacements will be required, and therefore regular 6-12 monthly appointments are still recommended.

Alternative options for replacing missing teeth include implants and bridges. All available options will be discussed with you prior to commencing any course of treatment.
